Syrian Refugee Crisis and Response
Sisters In Health is dedicated to responding to the ongoing refugee crisis that is happening across the globe at the present time. We are dedicated to making the world a little bit better for our refugee sisters and brothers. We do that through peaceful and gentle integrative health care, loving emotional support, and a sensible logistical response.
As of March 2016 most NGO's and aid have removed themselves from the island of Lesvos and are are working towards responding to the crisis that is now moving throughout Greece. Refugees have been removed from Lesvos and being dispersed throughout the camps in Greece. We are assessing the camps and and determining where our efforts would be the best suited.
Sisters In Health was able to build and run a clinic and treat, feed, and provide clothes for thousands of refugees during our time in Greece. We are continuing our refugee and women's health work around the globe. If you are interested in volunteering with Sisters In Health on a medical mission or you are another organization that would like our support please contact us! Please stay tuned and follow along as we decide where Sisters In Health would be the most beneficial to help the refugees.
Sisters In Health could not function in the capacity that it does without you! We are eternally grateful for the community of supporters and volunteers that stand with us to make the world a better place for women! Because of your generosity we were able to treat thousands of patients in Greece and as well as supporting the overall needs of the refugees. Because of you we were able to make the world a better place for many women and their families.

What Is Happening: In the last several years millions of people have fled their homes due to war and violence. Many of those refugees travel through Greece often risking everything. When the refugees land they have nothing. The smugglers will most likely have stripped them of any assets and they cannot take bags onto the boats. They are probably only a third of the way through their journey to a new life.
Our Goal: To help make the world a better place for the refugees through holistic care, peace, and love!
The Reality Of A Refugee: Families pick up in the middle of the night with only the clothes on their backs and a bag if they are lucky. Families are fleeing Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria and other countries in order to escape some of the most horrific violence that the world has ever seen. It usually takes the refugee 2-3 months to make their way to Turkey where they will get on a boat and make their way to Greece. Refugees make deals with smugglers and traffickers in order to get out of the country they are fleeing from. The refugees give up everything; all material possessions, their dignity, and sometimes their lives. Extreme violence, abuse, rape, and torture are all harrowing aspects of the perilous journey that many of the women have to face. An enormous amount of women and families are arriving in Greece with PTSD and in extremely poor health. Once the families make their way to Turkey smugglers are waiting to take them on one of the most dangerous legs of the trip. Packed into rubber dinghies and boats; families make their way across the increasingly dangerous waters of the Aegean Sea to the Greek Islands. Most families live through the journey, but some do not. Once the refugee makes it to the shore of Lesvos they are bused to one of the camps and then they are sent to Moria camp where they are registered. Families wait days in order to register so that they can continue with their journey to Athens. Many are arriving sick, with medical conditions, pregnant, with STI's, starving, and traumatized. . How You Can Help: Our mission in Lesvos is to make the world a better place for the women and families that have given up everything in order to survive. Our top priority is providing care and support to the women and families so that they know they are safe and are able to move forward to their new lives with less fear, worry, and improved health. This humanitarian effort is being put forth by many small organizations just like ours. Community support is what we need more than anything. No donation is small...every single penny makes a difference in the lives of these women. We are continuing to raise money in order to operate long term and on a daily basis. The daily needs are great!
